Article 21/09/2017

As detailed in the 2016 Producers' Commitments progress report published today the world's leading producers of Beer, Wine and Spirits producers have continued their efforts to tackle the harmful use of alcohol.

Here are three ways in which we deliver on the Commitments.

In the last year, we have expanded and deepened our programs by forging new partnerships across sectors, from governments and small retailers, to not-for-profits and others in the private sector. At the four-year mark of the five-year program there is momentum behind our efforts to tackle underage drinking, prevent drink driving, and engage retailers in our efforts to reduce harmful drinking. Working with others we are reaching hundreds of millions of people across the world with our programs.

The 11 signatories to the Beer, Wine and Spirits Producers' Commitments to Reduce Harmful Drinking are Anheuser-Busch InBev; Asahi Group Holdings; Bacardi; Beam Suntory; Brown-Forman Corporation; Carlsberg; Diageo; Heineken; Kirin Holdings Company; Molson Coors; Pernod Ricard.

By forming innovative partnerships with hundreds of organizations, these 11 companies have collectively:
'reached more than 100 million people with educational messages aimed at combatting underage drinking;
'ran 331 programs aimed at preventing drunk driving in 88 countries; and
'have 233 local responsible retailing initiatives in action across the globe.

Background on the Producers' Commitment:

The Producers' Commitments were launched as a five-year program of commitments aimed at supporting and complementing the World Health Organization's Global Alcohol Strategy. The commitments focus on:
'Reducing underage drinking
'Strengthening and expanding marketing codes of practice
'Providing consumer information and responsible product innovation
'Reducing drinking and driving
'Enlisting the support of retailers to reduce harmful drinking
