Know-how

Every aspect of our production journey takes place in and around the small village of Åhus Sweden. All ingredients for Absolut Vodka are sourced from within a 100 kilometers radius. By continuously improving and keeping focus on how we can be more sustainable we have made our distillery one of the most energy-efficient in the world*. Today, we have CO2 neutral distillation; a fact we’re proud of.

History of Absolut Vodka

1879

In 1879, distiller Lars Olsson Smith, nicknamed “The King of Vodka”, introduced continuous distillation from which he created Absolut rent bränvin (“perfectly pure vodka”). Instead of the usual three or four times, Olsson Smith distilled his vodka over a hundred times – a method introduced by Absolut a century later. Today, Absolut Vodka is produced in Åhus, the birthplace of Olsson Smith, from wheat grown in the same area.
