Pernod Ricard makes every effort to reduce atmospheric emissions caused by its operations. The Group is committed to limiting its harmful impact on the environment and improving its overall performance in environmental matters.
Reducing CO2 emissions
Pernod Ricard takes action to control CO2 emissions from its operations.
- By reducing fuel consumption in its distilleries, CO2 emissions were reduced by 7% in 2005-2006.
- A pilot study was launched in 2006 at three subsidiaries to measure the amount of CO2 emitted during transport (from procurement of raw materials to delivery to Group customers).
The purpose of the study is to determine the number of tonnes transported versus kilometres travelled in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
Preserving the ozone layer
Gases used in refrigeration equipment (refrigerators, air conditioning units…) may contain chlorine or fluorine, gases known to contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer.
In 2005, Pernod Ricard undertook an inspection of refrigeration units at its industrial sites. In 2006, this inspection was expanded and extended to new sites. The study concluded:
- waste emissions of chlorinated refrigeration gases remain very low
- in anticipation of new regulations, most subsidiaries have already planned to replace HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) with HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons), which have no impact on the ozone layer.
