Understanding the place of alcohol in society
To encourage alcohol consumption best practices, Pernod Ricard works to better understand the different drinking habits and particularities of the countries where it is present.
The Group takes part in several initiatives around the world.
- The Group is a partner of the Alcohol and Health Forum, launched by the European Commission in 2006, which facilitates concrete efforts by member states, non-governmental organisations and the industry.
- Pernod Ricard supports the International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP), an international think tank dedicated to alcohol-related policies. Using an extensive database, ICAP regularly publishes documented research reports on the health risks of alcohol. Through these studies, ICAP aims to make prevention campaigns more effective. For ICAP, prevention policies must be based on scientific facts to be effective over the long term.
- The Group is also an active member of the Global Alcohol Producers Group (GAP Group), which brings together major wine, beer and spirits players from around the world. The organisation contributes to international efforts to fight against damages caused by excessive consumption.
Supporting alcohol information centres
Each of Pernod Ricard’s subsidiaries is involved with locally based organisations. The privileged ties formed with these associations help to increase our initiatives’ effectiveness and visibility.
In Australia, for example, Pernod Ricard is an active member of Drinkwise, an organisation that fights against excessive alcohol consumption. In Poland, the group helped to establish the Polish Vodka Association, which leads prevention campaigns on the risks of engaging in nautical activities after drinking alcohol.
Since 2006, Pernod Ricard has taken part in the Drinkaware Trust, a British organisation that leads awareness campaigns about excessive alcohol consumption.
